GENEVA, N.Y.—Two Hobart College lacrosse players were named to the All-ECAC teams which were announced today. Junior attackman Daryl Veltman (Salisbury School/Georgetown, Ontario) and senior midfielder Chris David (Georgetown Prep/Silver Spring, Md.) earned a spot on the second team.
Veltman earned All-ECAC honors for the second straight season and was the league’s Rookie of the Year in 2004. This season, he led the ECAC and ranked 14th in the nation in goals. Veltman scored 33 goals and handed out 11 assists to rank second on the team with 44 points. He netted a career-high six goals against Bucknell on Feb. 24. Veltman has recorded at least one point in 19 consecutive games. He will start his senior season with 125 career points (83-42), 18 shy of Hobart’s Division I record.
David is making his second appearance on the All-ECAC teams as well, following second-team honors in 2005. He finished the 2007 regular season seventh in the nation among midfielders in goals scored with 23. David logged four hat tricks and had a season-high four points against Fairfield and St. John’s. He wrapped up his career fifth among Division I Statesmen in career goals with 74 and ninth in career points with 84.
Conspicuously absent from the All-League teams was Hobart’s leading scorer, junior attackman Jamie Kirk (Salisbury School/Orangeville, Ontario). He was the only player in the ECAC to record 50 points this season, netting 12 goals, while setting up 38. His 2.71 assists per game are 0.46 apg better than any other player in the nation. Kirk needed just eight games to break Hobart’s Division I season record for assists, 26, which was established in 16 games.
