Booth
named PL Defensive Player of the Week
May 6, 2002
GENEVA, N.Y.—The Patriot League announced this afternoon that Hobart
College junior midfielder Tim Booth (Waterloo/Waterloo, N.Y.) is the League’s
Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week. A preseason honorable mention All-American,
it’s the second time this season he’s received the weekly award.
Against 10th-ranked Cornell University, Booth scored the game’s opening
goal, won 12-of-19 faceoffs, and collected five ground balls. His performance
at the faceoff X marked the 12th time this season he has won more than
50 percent of his restarts. He has the most faceoff wins (134) by a Statesman
since Bobby Wynne ’94 won 209 in 1994. Booth also led the team in ground
balls against the Big Red, marking the 11th time this season he’s done
that. He has picked up the most ground balls (82) by a Statesman since
Alex Mitchell ’99 scooped up 100 in 1997.
Hobart lost to Cornell (10-3) by a score of 10-6, but still earned a spot
in the NCAA Division I Tournament by winning the Patriot League’s automatic
bid. The Statesmen will face Duke University in the first round on May
12. The game will be played in Newark, Del., at Delaware Stadium. Faceoff
is scheduled for 3 p.m.
Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for student and children. Tickets are
available via TicketMaster (302-984-2000), at the Bob Carpenter Center
Box Office, and at the Stadium on the day of the game. Ticket booths will
open at 10 a.m., with the stadium gates opening 30 minutes later. There
will also be a $5 charge for parking.
