GENEVA, N.Y.—Senior midfielder Tim Booth (Waterloo/Waterloo, N.Y.) became the first Hobart College lacrosse player selected in the Major League Lacrosse draft yesterday. The Statesmen’s top faceoff man over the past three seasons was taken with the second pick in the fifth round (26th overall) by the Rochester Rattlers.

Booth completed his collegiate career with 40 goals, 17 assists, 255 ground balls, and a 459-354 faceoff record. A two-time first-team All-Patriot League selection, he helped Hobart to the Patriot League Championships and NCAA Tournament appearances in 2000 and 2002. This season, Booth scored a career-high 22 points (17-5), while winning 146 of 261 faceoffs and collecting a team-high 75 ground balls. He finished the season 12th in the nation in ground balls per game and 19th in faceoff winning percentage.

Since elevating its lacrosse program to Division I in 1995, no Hobart player has won more faceoffs, had a higher faceoff winning percentage, or collected more ground balls than Booth. His .611 faceoff percentage in 2001 and .601 in 2002 are the only two 60 percent or better seasons at the X by a Division I Statesman.

An exceptional two-sport athlete, Booth also excelled on the gridiron. He completed his football career with 163 tackles, 11 interceptions, and 10 sacks, earning the UCAA Defensive Player of the Year Award. Booth was also a three-time All-UCAA and All-ECAC Northwest selection, while garnering D3Football.com All-American honorable mention.

No Hobart player had been taken in the MLL College Draft prior to Booth’s selection. Three Statesmen have been chosen in the league’s supplemental draft: David Cain ’00 and Bill Warder ’96 in 2001 and Nathan Roost ’98 in 2002.

The nation’s premier outdoor lacrosse league, the six-team MLL begins its third season tomorrow. New Jersey is at Boston for the opening faceoff at 7 p.m., while the Rattlers will host Bridgeport at 7:35 p.m.
