April 8, 2002

GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart College junior Mike Borsz (West Genesee/Camillus, N.Y.) was named the Patriot League Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week, for the week ending April 7. The goalie registered 35 saves and sported a .625 save percentage in a 1-1 week for the Statesmen.

On Wednesday, Borsz battled the Raiders of Colgate as well as blinding snow showers to earn his fifth win of the season. He turned aside 10 shots in the 14-10 win for the Statesmen. Three days later, he registered a career-high 25 saves against 18th-ranked Penn State, but Hobart fell to the visiting Nittany Lions 11-10 in overtime.

Through nine games, Borsz has a 5-4 record with a .583 save percentage and a 10.73 goals against average. His second player of the week honor of the season, he earned the same accolade following a 22-save performance at Army on March 9. All four of the team’s losses have come against teams ranked in the USILA Coaches Poll top-20.

Hobart returns to action on April 13, when fourth-ranked Georgetown visits Geneva. Faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. The game is also Camp Onseyawa Day. Hobart student-athletes will be conducting the third annual “Your Buck Goes Here” program, a fundraiser for Camp Onseyawa, a summer camp for children with special needs.
