September 16, 2003 We are excited to have Ron join the Statesmen family, Kerwick said. His enthusiasm and work ethic will enhance the program both on and off the field. Chase joins the Statesmen following a very successful stint as the top assistant coach at Hamilton College. He helped the Continentals to the 2003 UCAA Championship and the programs first NCAA Tournament appearance. Hamilton finished the season with a 15-3 record and ranked 12th in Division III after advancing to the NCAA Quarterfinals. Chase worked primarily with the Continentals defense, mentoring two All-Americans. Prior to his work in Clinton, Chase spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Haverford College. A four-year starter at West Chester University, Chase played close defense and long-stick middie for the Golden Rams. He led West Chester to three ECAC Division II Championship games, including the 1998 title. Chase graduated from West Chester in 1999 with a bachelors degree in health and physical education. A native of Southington, Conn., Chase currently lives in Geneva. The Statesmen return 34 letterwinners, including six starters, from the 2003 squad that finished just a game out of first place in the Patriot League (4-2, 5-8 overall). Hobart, a two-time Patriot League champion, will look to capture its third league title in its final season in the conference. Beginning in 2005, the Statesmen will compete in the best lacrosse league in the nation, the ECAC. |
