March 17, 2003

GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart College first-year Mike Conklin (West Genesee/Camillus, N.Y.) was named the Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Rookie of the Week this afternoon. Through four games, the attackman is second on the team in goals (7) and third in points (9).

In his first collegiate game, Conklin picked up two ground balls against Butler. The following weekend, he earned his first start and responded with three goals and an assist in a 15-4 win over Holy Cross. Most recently, against Lafayette, Conklin scored four goals and assisted on another, while collecting four ground balls in a 16-7 win. His four goals against the Leopards are the most by a Statesman rookie since Jamie Breslin ’01 netted four against Penn State in 1998.

Hobart is 3-1 this season, 2-0 in the Patriot League. The Statesmen return to action at 1 p.m., on March 22, when Patriot League foe Lehigh visits the Colleges’ AstroTurf Stadium. The game will be carried live by WEOS-FM (89.7/90.3) in the Geneva area and online at www.weos.org.

Live audio and video of the game will be available online courtesy of i2sports.com. Browsers will need a 400 MHz Pentium II with Windows 98 or higher and a high-speed Internet connection (cable modem, DSL modem or T1).
