Statesmen to face Hopkins, Towson in Genesee Valley Fall Lacrosse Classic

October 7, 2003

GENEVA, N.Y.--The Hobart lacrosse team will scrimmage a pair of 2002 NCAA Tournament teams on Oct. 11, in the Genesee Valley Fall Lacrosse Classic in Parkton, Md. The Statesmen will square off against NCAA runner up Johns Hopkins at 1 p.m., and quarterfinalist Towson at 3 p.m.

"We're looking forward to competing against two of the better programs in the country at Genesee Valley," Hobart Head Coach Matt Kerwick '90 said. "Hopkins and Towson both competed deep into the NCAA Tournament last spring and will give the guys an idea of the commitment necessary to be successful in the spring. The team is excited about being a part of a great group of teams this weekend."

The Statesmen return 34 letterwinners, including six starters, from the 2003 squad that finished just a game out of first place in the Patriot League (4-2, 5-8 overall). Hobart, a two-time Patriot League champion, will look to capture its third league title in its final season in the conference. Beginning in 2005, the Statesmen will compete in the best lacrosse league in the nation, the ECAC.

Admission to the scrimmages will be $10 per car or $20 per RV. Proceeds from the Genesee Valley Fall Lacrosse Classic benefit the Genesee Valley Learning Center.
