March 11, 2003 SAN ANTONIOFor the first time in 32 years, two Division I lacrosse programs squared off in Texas. The fifth-ranked Georgetown Hoyas lived up to their billing, topping the Hobart College Statesmen 13-5 at the Texas Military Institutes Howell Field. The Statesmen (2-1) opened the scoring at the 10:28 mark of the first quarter, but the Hoyas (3-0) responded with the next six tallies, including two each from senior Jordan Vettoretti (Carmel, N.Y.) and junior Mike Boynton (Fairport, N.Y.). Junior midfielder Brian Joy (West Genesee/Camillus, N.Y.) broke the run with 32 seconds remaining in the half with a man up goal, but the Hoyas answered just four seconds later on a goal by senior Mike Hammer (Fairfax, Va.) to head into halftime with a 7-2 lead. The teams traded goals in the third quarter and the Hoyas scored four straight to start the fourth and put the game out of reach. Vettoretti (3-2) and Hammer (2-3) led Georgetown with five points each. Senior attackman John Bogosian (Kent School/Massena, N.Y.) became just the fourth Statesman to play four seasons of Division I lacrosse (Hobart elevated the program in 1995) and score 100 career points. Nathan Roost '98, Jared Bebee 00, and Jamie Breslin 01 preceded him. Bogosian led Hobart with a pair of goals, while sophomore Nate Hill (Hamburg/Hamburg, N.Y.) added a goal and an assist. For Hobart, senior Mike Borsz (West Genesee/Camillus, N.Y.) made 14 saves in 51 minutes, while sophomore Dan Valente (Mt. Hebron/Ellicott City, Md.) turned away one down the stretch. Georgetowns Rich DAndrea (Belle Meade, N.J.) made 11 stops to earn the win. Hobart returns to action on March 15, in a Patriot League match up at Lafayette. Faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
