Brian Joy

June 5, 2004

GENEVA, N.Y.—With the second pick of the fifth round, the Rochester Rattlers of Major League Lacrosse selected Hobart’s Brian Joy ’04 (West Genesee/Camillus, N.Y.) in the 2004 MLL College Draft on June 4. Joy is the second Statesman to be drafted in the MLL’s College Draft, joining 2003 draftee Tim Booth ’03, who also was taken by the Rattlers with the second pick in the fifth round.

A midfielder, Joy was a first-team All-Patriot League selection after scoring 17 goals and four assists this season. He scored at least a point in 11 of the 15 games he played in this season, including a season-high three points twice, recording a goal and two assists against Ohio State on April 17 and posting a three-goal performance in the regular season finale against Cornell on May 7.

Last month, Joy became the 92nd Hobart player selected to play in the North-South Classic. The 63rd annual event begins at 3 p.m., on June 12, at Nazareth Stadium on the campus of Nazareth College.

Four Statesmen have been chosen in the league’s supplemental draft: David Cain ’00 and Bill Warder ’96 in 2001, Nathan Roost ’98 in 2002, and Chris Rogers in 2003.

The nation’s premier outdoor lacrosse league, the six-team MLL began its fourth season last month.
