May 4, 2004

GENEVA, N.Y.--Hobart College junior Dan Valente (Mt. Hebron/Ellicott City, Md.) was named the Rochester Area College Athletics Co-Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending May 2. It's the second time this season the Statesman lacrosse goalie has earned the award.

Valente made 28 saves, stopping 60.9 percent of the shots against him, in two games in the Patriot League Championship Tournament. He allowed nine goals in a one-goal semifinal win over Bucknell, and another nine (with 15 saves) in the final against Navy, ranked second in NCAA Division I. Valente also picked up a team-high seven ground balls against the Midshipmen.

For the season, Valente boasts an 8.58 GAA and a .597 save percentage. A second-team All-Patriot League selection, he leads the Patriot League and is ranked 14th in the nation in save percentage.

Ranked 17th in the latest Geico/STX Coaches Poll and 18th in the latest Inside Lacrosse Media Poll, Hobart closes out the regular season at 7 p.m., on May 7, against ninth-ranked Cornell. The Statesmen and Big Red will square off for the 121st time in one of the oldest rivalries in collegiate sports.
