May 4, 2004 Valente made 28 saves, stopping 60.9 percent of the shots against him, in two games in the Patriot League Championship Tournament. He allowed nine goals in a one-goal semifinal win over Bucknell, and another nine (with 15 saves) in the final against Navy, ranked second in NCAA Division I. Valente also picked up a team-high seven ground balls against the Midshipmen. For the season, Valente boasts an 8.58 GAA and a .597 save percentage. A second-team All-Patriot League selection, he leads the Patriot League and is ranked 14th in the nation in save percentage. Ranked 17th in the latest Geico/STX Coaches Poll and 18th in the latest Inside Lacrosse Media Poll, Hobart closes out the regular season at 7 p.m., on May 7, against ninth-ranked Cornell. The Statesmen and Big Red will square off for the 121st time in one of the oldest rivalries in collegiate sports. |
