GENEVA, N.Y.—Three players on the Hobart College soccer team were selected to the All-Liberty League teams in a vote by the League’s coaches. Senior striker Micke Subotowicz (Farsta Gymnasium/Stockholm, Sweden) represented the Statesmen on the first-team, while first-year goalkeeper Phil DaCosta (Manchester Memorial/Manchester, N.H.) earned second-team honors. Sophomore midfielder Bradley Weinberg (Marcellus/Marcellus, N.Y.) garnered honorable mention.
The 2003 Liberty League Player of the Year, Subotowicz completed the season tied for first in the conference in assists (8) and second in game-winning goals (4), while ranking third in points (24) and goals (8). He is making his third consecutive appearance on the first-team. Subotowicz netted a season-high four points, on a pair of goals, as Hobart defeated RIT, 3-1. A mainstay in the Statesmen lineup for four seasons, he is second in career points (92). On Oct. 8, Subotowicz recorded his 27th career assist to break the Hobart career record set by Jeff Saunders ’92. Subotowicz raised the Hobart assists standard to 30.
DaCosta enjoyed a spectacular season in net for Hobart, playing 1146:27 minutes. He ranked among the top goaltenders in the conference in four categories: saves per game (2nd, 5.15), shutouts (t-2nd, 3), saves (3rd, 67), and goals against average (4th, 1.10). Against Rochester earlier this season, DaCosta made a season-high nine saves.
A two-year starter, Weinberg earned Liberty League recognition for the first time this season. Weinberg netted the first goal during a 2-1 win over St. John Fisher earlier this season. In 33 career games, he has registered two goals and three assists.
Hobart completed the 2005 campaign with a 7-8-2 record, including a 3-4-0 mark in the conference.
