GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College soccer team landed four players on the All-Liberty League first-team this afternoon as voted by the League’s coaches. St. Lawrence, who also earned four spots, is the only other school to have more than one player named to the first-team. Seniors Dan Abroms (Pomfret School/New Canaan, N.J.), Juan Vargas (Del Valle/El Paso, Texas), and Ricky Klotz (Homer/Cortland, N.Y.) and junior Micke Subotowicz (Farsta Gymnasium/Stockholm, Sweden) represented the Statesmen.
A four-year starter in the midfield, Abroms was third on the team in scoring with four goals and two assists for 10 points. He tallied at least one point in five different games and notched a season-high three points with a goal and an assist against Clarkson. A 2003 All-Liberty League first-team honoree, Abroms has 14 goals and 10 assists for 38 points during his four seasons.
A technically gifted outside midfielder, Vargas scored a pair of goals for the Statesmen while running along the flank. A four-year starter, Vargas helped Hobart earn their first postseason berth in 2003 with a career-high eight points (2g/4a). He finishes his career with four goals and 12 assists for 20 points.
A forward, Klotz earned a spot on the first-team for the second consecutive year after leading all Liberty League scorers with 26 points on 12 goals and two assists. He tallied at least two goals in five contests and notched a season-high three scores in a win over Skidmore. A four-year starter, Klotz ranks second in both career goals (40) and points (89).
The 2003 Liberty League Player of the Year, Subotowicz led the team in assists (6) and was second in goals (8) and points (22). In his second season as a striker he tallied at least one point in nine games and had at least two points in seven of those games, including a five-point outburst against Union. For his career, Subotowicz ranks second in career assists with 23, and is just four shy of surpassing Jeff Saunders ’92, while his 69 career points ranks sixth.
The Statesmen finished the 2004 season 5-12-0 overall and 2-5-0 in Liberty League play.
