Hobart stops Utica 4-2 in soccer

September 14, 2005

UTICA, N.Y.--The Hobart soccer team defeated Utica College 4-2 this afteroon. With his Statesmen trailing 2-1, senior Micke Subotowicz sandwiched a pair of assists around a goal of his own to lift Hobart to its third win of the year.

The offensive outburst lifts Subotowicz's career assists total to 25, one shy of the Hobart career record set by Jeff Saunders '92.

Sophomore Tyler Webster opened the scoring, just 19 seconds into the contest, but the Pioneers (1-1-2) answered just over two minutes later. Utica grabbed the lead in the 16th minute.

Enter Subotowicz.

The Swede earned his first assist of the year on the first collegiate goal by first-year Matt Schwartz in the 40th minute. The Statesmen reclaimed the lead, 3-2, just before the half on Subotowicz's fifth goal of the year.

Ben Crosky scored the only goal of the second half in the 58th minute.

Hobart first-year Pete Van Dellon earned his second win of the year in as many starts with four saves.

The Statesmen return home for a match against Rochester at 2 p.m. on Sept. 17 on Cozzens Field.
