GENEVA, N.Y.—Senior striker Ricky Klotz (Homer/Cortland, N.Y.) recorded a hat trick to lead the Hobart College soccer team to a 4-1 Liberty League victory over Skidmore College on Cozzens Field this afternoon. The Statesmen improve to 3-5-0 overall, 1-1-0 in the Liberty League, while the Thoroughbreds fall to 5-4-0, 1-1-0.

Klotz opened the afternoon’s scoring with a blast inside the box during the 34th minute with classmate Ross Offinger (Hall/West Hartford, Conn.) earning the assist. The goal stood alone in the first half.

Skidmore equalized just after halftime on a breakaway effort by sophomore midfielder Van Haskell (Rivers/Needham, Mass.).

Klotz responded with back-to-back tallies less than three minutes apart to give Hobart a 3-1 lead in the 59th minute. Junior striker Micke Subotowicz (Farsta Gymnasium/Stockholm, Sweden), who assisted on Klotz’s second goal, scored the final goal of the afternoon in the 85th minute.

First-year goalie Ben Tamberella (St. Peter’s Prep/Hoboken, N.J.) picked up the win with four saves, while senior Rollie Kielman (Champlain Valley/Hinesburg, Vt.) made three stops for the Thoroughbreds.

The Statesmen return to action at 7 p.m., on Sept. 28, when they travel to Pittsford to take on the St. John Fisher Cardinals.
