Ricky Klotz

GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart College senior forward Ricky Klotz (Homer/Cortland, N.Y.) earned a spot on the ESPN Academic All-America College Division Soccer Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Garnering third-team honors, he is the first soccer player and just the sixth Statesman to earn the honor.

An economics major, Klotz led the Statesmen and was second in the Liberty League in scoring this past season with 12 goals and two assists for 26 points. A two-time All-Liberty League first-team selection, he tallied at least two goals in five contests and notched a season-high three scores in a win over Skidmore.

In 2003, Klotz helped the Statesmen earn their first postseason berth in 10 years as the top seed in the ECAC Tournament. His 14 goals and 33 points last season rank fifth and sixth, respectively, on Hobart’s single season lists.

A two-time NSCAA All-Northeast Region selection, Klotz ranks second on both the career goals (40) and career points list (89), behind 2002 Hall of Fame Inductee and Hobart’s lone first-team All-American Jeff Saunders ’92. Starting every game over the past four seasons, Klotz has 10 multiple-goal games and has scored at least a point 33 times.

Hobart finished the 2004 season 5-12-0 overall and 2-5-0 in Liberty League play.

To earn a place on the CoSIDA teams, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum 3.2 grade point average, be a starter or significant reserve, and be at least a sophomore in academic standing. CoSIDA selects eight Academic All-District teams and chooses the Academic All-America teams from the eight District first-teams. Klotz made his second consecutive appearance on the Academic All-District first-team earlier this month.

CoSIDA selects Academic All-America teams in 12 programs: football, women’s volleyball, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, baseball, softball, men’s track & field/cross country, women’s track & field/cross country, men’s at-large and women’s at-large. A first-team, second-team and third-team are selected in both the University (Division I and I-AA) and College (Division II, III and NAIA) Divisions. Football consists of just first and second teams.
