September 23, 2005

CANTON, N.Y.—The Hobart College soccer team suffered a difficult 1-0 overtime setback to St. Lawrence this afternoon. The loss drops the Statesmen to an overall record of 3-3-1 and 0-1-0 in conference play.

Senior Elliot Savitz ripped a shot from 15 yards out past Hobart goalkeeper Phil DaCosta (Manchester Memorial/Manchester, N.H.) in the second minute of overtime. DaCosta registered five saves in the loss.

In the 88th minute, Hobart almost broke the 0-0 stalemate when first-year Dan Riso (Red Hook Central/Red Hook, N.Y.), < Marietta, Academy (Hebron Rogers>, and Ben Crosky (Mountain Greylock Regional/Williamstown, Mass.) rattled off three quick shots, but Saints’ goaltender Emilio Coletta stood strong, registering a pair of saves.

The Statesmen return to action on Sept. 24 at 2 p.m. when they travel to conference foe Clarkson University.
