GENEVA, N.Y.—Four Hobart College soccer players were recently named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Northeast Region Team. Sophomores Philipp Schoeniger (Erlangen/Erlangen, Germany) and Dan Riso (Red Hook Central/Red Hook, N.Y.) were named to the second team, while senior Jamie Smith (Cheshire/Cheshire, Conn.) and junior Brad Weinberg (Marcellus/Marcellus, N.Y.) were named to the third team. All four were selected to the All-Liberty League second team earlier this fall.

The Statesmen closed out one of the most successful seasons in program history ranked 19th in the nation by the NSCAA, sporting a 12-4-3 overall record. Hobart recieved an NCAA Tournament bid for just the second time, and advanced to the second round for the very first time.

A forward, Riso started 16 games and led the team in goals (6) and points (15). A two-time Liberty League Offensive Performer of the Week, Riso was the first player in Hobart soccer history to be named to the D3Kicks.com Team of the Week after netting a hat trick in the Statesmen’s season-opening win over Alfred.

A midfielder and co-captain, Schoeniger ranked second on the team in scoring with four goals and one assist. He tallied three game-winning goals this fall, lifting Hobart over RIT, Vassar, and Clarkson. The co-captain earned Liberty League Offensive Player of the Week accolades once.

Weinberg is a quick and talented playmaker. A midfielder, he started every game this season and led the team in assists with four. He also netted one goal, increasing his career totals to three goals and seven assists in 52 games. Weinberg was tabbed the league’s Offensive Performer of the Week after assisting on both Hobart goals in a 2-1 win over Hamilton on Sept. 30.

Smith was an integral part of the Statesmen’s success this season. He led a strong defense that recorded nine shutouts, a 0.80 goals allowed average, and allowed just two goals in league play. A co-captain, Smith played in 75 career games, totaling two goals and one assist for five points.
