Hobart soccer improves to 4-0

September 9, 2005

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart soccer team, currently ranked 15th in the nation, improved its record to 4-0-0 after defeating Elmira College 3-0 here today. The Soaring Eagles fell to 2-1-0.

Senior forward Tucker Crockett (Episcopal Academy/Rosemont, Pa.) opened the scoring in the 13th minute for the Statesmen, assisted by junior Brad Weinberg (Marcellus/Marcellus, N.Y.) and sophomore Dan Riso (Red Hook Central/Red Hook, N.Y.). Hobart extended its lead to 2-0 just under 10 minutes later, when sophomore Matt Schwartz (Lower Merion/Wynnewood, Pa.) headed the ball into the goal following a well-placed corner kick from junior Tyler Webster (Acton-Boxboro/Acton, Mass.).

After taking a 2-0 lead into the break, the Statesmen added another goal in the 47th minute, when an Elmira defender deflected the ball into the goal after a corner kick from Hobart’s Philipp Schoeniger (Erlangen/Erlangen, Germany).

Sophomore goalkeeper Pete Van Dellon (Webster Thomas/Webster, N.Y.) recorded two saves to earn his second shutout of the season, while Jon DePrimo (Southside/Elmira, N.Y.) stopped seven shots for Elmira.

Hobart will host Utica on Sept. 13 at 4:30 p.m.
