GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart soccer team defeated the Rochester Institute of Technology 2-1 this afternoon, extending its winning streak to three games. The Statesmen, who entered the match ranked 15th in the nation, improve to 3-0 overall. The Tigers dropped to 0-3.
Junior midfielder Tyler Webster (Acton-Boxboro/Acton, Mass.) opened the scoring off a pass from senior Ben Crosky (Mountain Greylock/Williamstown, Mass.) in the 19th minute to give the Statesmen a 1-0 lead. The Tigers retaliated less than a minute later with a goal of their own, scored by junior Mark Frisicano (Greece Olympia/Rochester, N.Y.), to even the game at 1-1. The game would remain even for the rest of the half.
Hobart sophomore Philipp Schoeniger (Erlangen/Erlangen, Germany) broke the tie a few minutes into the second half, as he headed the ball into the goal off a cross from classmate Dan Riso (Red Hook Central/Red Hook, N.Y.). Neither team would score again.
Sophomore goalkeeper Phil DaCosta (Manchester Memorial/Manchester, N.H.) stopped two shots for the Statesmen and improved his record to 2-0, while junior Chris Rouland (Southern Lehigh/Center Valley, Pa.) recorded five saves for RIT.
Hobart will return to action on Sept. 9, when it hosts Elmira on Cozzens Field at 4 p.m. The game is YMCA Day as the Statesmen will welcome area YMCA youth soccer players from around the area.
