Hobart opens season with a win

BROCKPORT, N.Y.—The Hobart soccer team kicked off its season today with a win over Alfred University (6-1) in the first round of the Golisano Children’s Hospital Tournament, held at SUNY Brockport. Hobart stands at 1-0 overall, while Alfred drops to 0-1.

Sophomore Dan Riso (Red Hook Central/Red Hook, N.Y.) scored three goals in the second half to lead the Statesmen. Newcomer Grant Morrison (Gleniffer/Paisley, Scotland) totaled a goal and an assist, while juniors Brad Weinberg (Marcellus/Marcellus, N.Y.) (1 goal) and Tyler Webster (Acton-Boxboro/Acton, Mass.) (2 assists) also contributed to the offense. First year Sam Wisner (Wayland/Wayland, Mass.) tallied a goal for Hobart as well.

The Statesmen will take on Brockport in the championship game at 2 p.m. on Sept. 3.
