Hobart rolls over Clarkson, 3-0

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart Statesmen defeated the Clarkson University Golden Knights 3-0 in Liberty League men’s soccer action today on Cozzens Field. The eighth-ranked Statesmen improve to 11-1-0 overall and 5-0-0 in the league, while the Golden Knights drop to 1-9-1 and 0-4-0.
Hobart sophomore Philipp Schoeniger (Erlangen/Erlangen, Germany) netted what would eventually become the game-winner in the 23rd minute of play to give the Statesmen a 1-0 lead.
Less than 10 minutes into the second half, Hobart senior Tucker Crockett (Episcopal Academy/Rosemont, Pa.) scored his third goal of the season off a lead pass from sophomore Matt Schwartz (Lower Merion/Wynnewood, Pa.), giving Hobart a 2-0 lead. Sophomore Dan Riso (Red Hook Central/Red Hook, N.Y.) was responsible for the Statesmen’s third goal of the day, with help from junior Brad Weinberg (Marcellus/Marcellus, N.Y.). Riso’s goal marked his team-leading sixth of the season.
Sophomore goalkeeper Pete Van Dellon (Webster Thomas/Webster, N.Y.) (6-0-0) stopped six shots for the Statesmen and recorded his fourth shutout of the season, while senior David Hennessey (Shoreham Wading River/Wading River, N.Y.) took the loss for the Golden Knights. Sophomore goalie Mike St. Croix (Immaculate Heart/Watertown, N.Y.) tallied two saves for Clarkson.
Hobart will be back in action on Oct. 10 when it hosts Ithaca College for a non-league game at 4 p.m. on Cozzens Field.
