GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart soccer team extended its winning streak to five after defeating Utica College 1-0 this afternoon on McCooey Field. The eighth-ranked Statesmen improved their record to 5-0-0, and are off to their best start since the 1992 team won all 15 regular season games. The Pioneers drop to 1-1-1.

Hobart controlled the majority of the game, out-shooting Utica 26-7. The lone goal of the game was headed in by sophomore Matt Schwartz (Lower Merion/Wynnewood, Pa.) off a corner kick by classmate Philipp Schoeniger (Erlangen/Erlangen, Germany) in the 33rd minute of play.

Niether team would capitalize on numerous opportunities to score in the second half.

Sophomore goalkeeper Phil DaCosta (Manchester Memorial/Manchester, N.H) (3-0-0, 0.67 GAA) tallied three stops and recorded his first shutout of the season to lead the Statesmen, while senior Anthony DeSarro (Cicero-N. Syracuse/Liverpool, N.Y.) recorded seven saves for the Pioneers.

Hobart will return to action on Sept. 16 when it travels to the University of Rochester for a non-conference game at 7 p.m.
