Riso, DaCosta earn Liberty League honors
October 9, 2006
GENEVA, N.Y.—Sophomores Dan Riso (Red Hook Central/Red Hook, N.Y.) and Phil DaCosta (Manchester Memorial/Manchester, N.H.) were named the Liberty League Men's Soccer Offensive Performer of the Week and Co-Defensive Performer of the Week, respectively, this afternoon.
Riso scored two goals in two games last week for the Statesmen. He netted the game-winner in a 1-0 double overtime victory over St. Lawrence on Friday, before going on to score an insurance goal in Hobart's 3-0 win over Clarkson on Saturday. Riso leads Hobart in goals (6) and points (14).
Goalkeeper DaCosta tallied six saves to record his second shutout of the season in the win over the Saints. He now owns a 5-1-0 record and a 0.81 goals against average. The win marked the end of Hobart's 15-game losing streak to Saint Lawrence.
The eighth-ranked Statesmen are currently 11-1-0 overall and undefeated (5-0-0) in the Liberty League. They will be back in action on Oct. 10 when they host Ithaca for a non-league game on Cozzens Field at 4 p.m.
