Services scheduled in remembrance of Brad Wilby

Brad Wilby (1980-2006)

GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart Assistant Soccer Coach Brad Wilby, 25, a native of Haddonfield, N.J., died on June 2, at Geneva General Hospital after collapsing during a workout on campus.

Calling hours are scheduled for Thursday, June 8 from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. at the Kain-Murphy Funeral Home in Haddonfield. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 9, at the First Baptist Church.

There also will be a memorial service in St. John’s Chapel on the campus of Hobart and William Smith Colleges beginning at 4:30 p.m. on June 12.

People who wish to send condolences to the Wilby Family may mail them to 1165 Concord Drive, Haddonfield, NJ 08033. A scholarship in Brad’s name is being established at his alma mater, Plymouth State University. Contributions can be sent to The Bradford G. Wilby Scholarship Fund, c/o Commerce Bank, 100 Haddon Avenue, Haddonfield, NJ 08033.

Wilby joined the Hobart coaching staff prior to the start of the 2004 season. He was involved with all facets of the program, concentrating on recruiting, the defense, and the goalies. In addition to his coaching duties, Wilby volunteered his time with youth groups in the community, including the YMCA, sharing his love of soccer.

A 2004 graduate of Plymouth State University, Wilby played goalie for the Panther soccer team. As a senior, Wilby was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-New England first team and received Plymouth State’s Paul E. Arnold Varsity Club Male Athlete of the Year Award.

Wilby graduated from Haddonfield Memorial High School, where he played on two New Jersey state championship soccer teams. He is the son of Robert and Susan Wilby and the brother of Rebecca and Melissa.
