NCAA Soccer logoYORK, Pa.—The 14th-ranked Hobart College soccer team saw its NCAA Tournament run end this afternoon, as the Statesmen lost at second-ranked York ( Pa. ) College 3-0.

The Spartans took a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute on the first of two goals by Mike Baker. York carried a 2-0 lead into halftime thanks to a goal by Matt Beale in the 36th minute. The Spartans control the tempo of the contest in the first half, outshooting Hobart 12-4.

Baker put the match out of reach in the 63rd minute with his seventh goal of the season. Shots were even in the second stanza, but the Statesmen could not solve the York defense.

Sophomore goalie Pete Van Dellon (Webster Thomas/Webster, N.Y.) stopped seven of the shots he faced, while classmate Phil DaCosta (Manchester/Manchester, N.H.) did not see a shot in 20 minutes of relief work. York’s Kyle Marks and Ryan Hock combined to make four saves.

Hobart finishes the season with a 12-4-2 record, the most wins by the Statesmen since the 2003 squad won 14, and the best winning percentage (.722) by a Hobart soccer team since 1992 (.969, 15-0-1).
