Statesmen tie Union, finish second in league

GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart and Union played to a 0-0 double-overtime tie in Liberty League men’s soccer action today on McCooey Field. With the tie the Statesmen secure second place in the Liberty League, behind Hamilton College who squeaked out the top spot. Hobart now stands at 12-2-2 overall and 5-0-2 in league play, while the Dutchmen are 8-4-3 and 2-3-2 in the conference. Union finished fifth in the league.
In 110 minutes of back-and-forth action, neither team was able to connect on multiple opportunities. Hobart out-shot Union 28-11, but the Dutchmen defense held strong and would not allow a score.
Sophomore goalkeeper Pete Van Dellon (Webster Thomas/Webster, N.Y.) tallied eight saves for the Statesmen en route to his sixth shutout of the season, while Rob Kramer (Staples/Westport, Conn.) stopped nine shots for the Dutchmen.
Hobart will wrap up its regular season schedule at Fredonia on Oct. 28 at 1 p.m., before traveling to Hamilton for the Liberty League Tournament on Nov. 3-4.
