Statesmen soccer captains announced

Dan Abroms

Christian Buestad

Micke Subotowicz

May 23, 2003

GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart College Head Soccer Coach Shawn Griffin recently announced that sophomore midfielder Dan Abroms (Pomfret School/New Canaan, Conn.), sophomore defender Christian Buestad (Northfield-Mt. Hermon/Orinda, Calif.), and first-year midfielder Micke Subotowicz (Farsta Gymnasium/Stockholm, Sweden) will serve as captains for the 2003 season.

Abroms was Hobart’s second leading scorer with six goals and four assists in 2002. A second-team All-UCAA selection, he netted game-winning goals for the Statesmen against RIT and Rensselaer.

A two-year starter in the back, Buestad registered one goal and two assists for the Statesmen. A strong defender, he helped anchor a young backline last season that registered three shutouts and posted a 1.84 goals against average.

Leading the team and the UCAA in assists, Subotowicz was a mainstay in the middle third of the field for the Statesmen. Third on the team with 13 points, he started all 20 games for Hobart, earning second-team All-UCAA and NSCAA third-team All-Northeast accolades. He is the recent recipient of the Abe Solomon Rookie Award, presented to the College’s top first-year athlete.

Hobart finished the 2002 season at 10-8-2, its best record since 1999, earning a bid to the inaugural UCAA Tournament, where they lost in the opening round to eventual NCAA semifinalist St. Lawrence.
