October 27, 2003 GENEVA, N.Y.The Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association recently named Hobart College goalkeeper Carl Fried (Nacka Gymnasium/Alta, Sweden) its Mens Soccer Rookie of the Week. This marks the second time this season he has garnered UCAA recognition. Fried posted a .917 save percentage and a 0.45 goals against average to lead the Statesmen to a 1-0-1 weekend and the third seed in the UCAA Tournament. The rookie keeper made three saves in the 2-1 victory over Union that clinched the spot in the conference playoffs and earned his third shutout of the year with an eight save performance in a scoreless draw with Skidmore the following afternoon. His 65 saves this season ranks second in the conference. The Statesmen (11-5-1) surpassed their win total from a year ago with the victory at Union and will post consecutive winning seasons for the first time since Hobart finished above .500 from 1991-1993. The Statesmen will face the No. 2 seed Hamilton College at top seeded St. Lawrence on Nov. 8. Hobart plays again on Oct. 28, traveling to Nazareth for a match at 3 p.m. |
