November 7, 2003 Joining Subotowicz and Hafsia on the first team were juniors Ricky Klotz (Homer/Cortland, N.Y.) and Dan Abroms (Pomfret School/New Canaan, Conn.). The Statesmens four first-team selections were more than any other team. Since arriving in 2000, Griffin has guided the program through steady improvement. Posting a 6-11-2 record his first season, he led the Statesmen to a 13-5-1 record this year and the third seed in the UCAA Tournament. The 13 victories is an improvement from 10 a year ago and the most for Hobart since the 1992 squad went 15-0-1. A 2002 All-Region selection, Subotowicz paced a high-powered Statesmen offense with 12 goals and a league best nine assists. He earned UCAA Offensive Player of the Week honors twice and was chosen as the RACA Male Athlete of the Week after netting a hat trick against Rensselaer. Notching at least three points in seven different games, Hobart is 8-1 when he scores. His 16 career assists ranks fifth on the all-time list, while his 33 points and nine assists this season are fifth best, on those respective lists. Starting every game this year, Hafsia anchors a Statesmen defense that has allowed eight fewer goals than a year ago, while posting four shutouts. A talented defender, he was selected to the Richard Stockton Classic All-Tournament Team. A dangerous striker, Klotz leads the team with 13 goals, including a conference best five game-winners. He helped Hobart secure the third seed to the UCAA Tournament, scoring the game-winner in a 2-1 win over Union. Recently voted to the CoSIDA Academic All-District I first-team, Klotz is fifth on the single-season goals list and ranks sixth on both the career goals (27) and single-season points (31) list. Selected to the All-UCAA second-team a year ago, Abroms anchors a talented midfield line for the Statesmen. He has started in all 18 games he has played this year, notching four goals and three assists. A playmaker in the center of the field, he assisted on the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Clarkson. He also earned Richard Stockton All-Tournament Team honors. Hobart is headed to St. Lawrence for the UCAA Tournament on Nov. 8-9. Top seed St. Lawrence will play Skidmore on Nov. 8, at 11 a.m., while the Statesmen go up against second seeded Hamilton at 1:30 p.m. The winners advance to the title game on Nov. 9, at 1:30 p.m., for the chance to play for the conference championship and the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. |
