Klotz named player of the week

Ricky Klotz

September 24, 2002

GENEVA, N.Y. – Sophomore forward Ricky Klotz (Homer/Cortland, N.Y.) was recently named Player of the Week in soccer by the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association. Klotz’s two goals last week were instrumental in Hobart’s victories over Ithaca College and RIT.

Against Ithaca, Klotz scored the lone goal, heading a cross from sophomore Christian Buestad (Northfield-Mt. Hermon/Orinda, Calif.) into the back of the net for his fourth goal of the year. One day later, Klotz was the hero again when he ripped a shot past the RIT goalie to tie the game and send it into overtime. His five goals in six games lead the Hobart scoring list for 2002.

Those two wins propelled Hobart into a tie with Nazareth College for the seventh spot in the NSCAA Northeast Regional Rankings.

Hobart faces off against Utica College on today at 4 p.m. Conference play kicks off for the Statesmen on Sept. 27, when they host St. Lawrence, ranked ninth in the nation, at 4 p.m.
