GENEVA, N.Y.—Area artisans and merchants may not inhabit Hobart’s recently refurbished soccer team room but rest assured, their presence echoes throughout the space.

The College went in a decidedly homegrown direction as they tapped area businesses to assist in the $60,000 renovation project. Seneca Builders of Geneva provided site construction, painting by Greco Painting of _Geneva, Post Mill Works of Canandaigua custom-built the team room’s 31 oak lockers and oak audio-visual cabinet. Multimedia equipment, including television and VCR, was supplied through Rex Appliances of Geneva. R.D. Weiss of Rochester installed the carpeting and Clemens Signs of Geneva created the signage and logo.

The revitalized room is named for Hobart trustee and former soccer standout Thomas B. Poole ’61, currently president/CEO of Hallen Construction Co., Inc. in Island Park, N.Y. Poole captained the 1960 soccer team to a 6-1-1 season. A past president and lifetime member of the Statesmen Athletic Association, he was inducted into the Hobart Statesmen Hall of Fame in 2002.

Poole serves as chair of the Hobart and William Smith Board’s Buildings and Grounds committee, which oversees new construction and renovation on the campus.

“Along with Cozzens Memorial Field and the RFK Strength Training Center, the facilities available to Hobart soccer athletes are indeed impressive,” said Mike Hanna, Hobart athletics director. “We are extremely grateful to Tom Poole for his vision and leadership, and to all those who contributed to the team room.”
