Statesmen bounce back against Clarkson

September 28, 2002

GENEVA, N.Y.—Sophomore midfielder Dan Abroms (Pomfret School/New Canaan, Conn.) assisted on both goals as the Hobart College soccer team defeated visiting Clarkson 2-1 in a UCAA contest. The win puts the Statesmen at 5-3-1 on the season and 1-1 in conference play, while Clarkson falls to 1-7 and 0-2 in the UCAA.

The Golden Knights opened up scoring in the 12th minute when Mike Bud (Canandaigua Academy/Canandaigua, N.Y.) got in behind the Hobart defense. The Statesmen answered in the 19th minute as first-year Matt Vesonder (Mountain Lakes/Boonton Township, N.J.) knocked Abroms’ flighted ball past the Clarkson goalie. Abroms worked his magic again in the 53rd minute when he beat the Clarkson defender to the end line and slotted it across to sophomore Ricky Klotz (Homer/Cortland, N.Y.) who one-timed it into the back of the net for his sixth goal of the season.

Statesmen goalie Cory Rosier (Liverpool/Liverpool, N.Y.) played the entire game, making four saves, while Clarkson goalie Mike Frediani (Parsippany/Morris Plains, N.J.) stopped four shots as well.

The Statesmen are back in action on October 1, traveling to University of Rochester for a 7 p.m. game.
