Statesmen halt Bombers attack

September 17, 2002

GENEVA, N.Y. – The Hobart College soccer team shut out the Ithaca College Bombers 1-0 to win its second game of the season. The Statesmen were coming off a tough 1-1 result against St. John Fisher this past weekend.

Hobart looked out of sync in the beginning of the match, but the Statesmen gained their composure and started playing the ball on the ground. Playing high-pressure defense, the Hobart defenders were able to get into the attack throughout much of the game. Sophomore defender Christian Buestad (Northfield-Mt. Hermon/Orinda, Calif.) capitalized on his opportunity to go forward in the 35th minute when he crossed a ball into the box to sophomore forward Ricky Klotz (Homer/Cortland, N.Y.). Klotz timed the service perfectly as he ripped a header into the back of the net, giving him his fourth goal on the season. The Statesmen stayed strong defensively in the second half, allowing only two shots during the 45 minutes.

Senior goalkeeper Cory Rosier (Liverpool/Liverpool, N.Y.) was strong in goal for the Statesmen, pulling in four saves to post his first shutout of 2002. Bombers keeper Ted Meyer ( Strath Haven/Wallingford, Pa.) made six stops on the afternoon. With this win the Statesmen improved to 2-2-1.

Hobart returns to action again tomorrow, Sept. 18, when they host RIT at 4 p.m.
