September 24, 2002 GENEVA, N.Y. The Hobart College soccer team received four goals from as many players today in a 4-0 victory over visiting Utica College. The Statesmen increase their winning streak to three, improving to 4-2-1 overall. Coming into the game ranked seventh in the northeast region, Hobart dominated play throughout the 90 minutes. Swinging the ball from touchline to touchline, the Statesmen looked composed and confident early in the match. In the 28th minute, Micke Subotowicz (Farsta Gymnasium/Stockholm, Sweden) received a long ball from Ross Offinger (Hall School/West Hartford, Conn.), bringing it down smoothly with his chest and burying the ball in the left corner to put the Statesmen up 1-0. With only 54 seconds until halftime, Dan Abroms (Pomfret School/New Canaan, Conn.) scored his third goal of the year with a well-struck shot over the Utica keepers head. Alex Coates (Avon Old Farms/Belvedere, Calif.) and Ben Polk (Western Reserve Academy/West Hartford, Conn.) rounded out the scoring for Hobart in the 62nd and 75th minutes, respectively. Statesmen goalies, Cory Rosier (Liverpool/Liverpool, N.Y.) and Chris Maravelli (Mt. St. Joseph Academy/Rutland, Vt.) both saw action today, with Rosier making the only save of the match. Utica goalie Mark McFarland (Clear Lake/Houston, Texas) went the distance, pulling in 10 saves. Hobart kicks off again on Sept. 27, hosting St. Lawrence, ranked ninth nationally, at 4 p.m. |
