October 2, 2001 GENEVA, N.Y.--The Hobart College soccer team posted its second shutout of the season, and in the process halted a four-game winless streak with a 2-0 victory over Keuka College. Junior goalie Cory Rosier (Liverpool/Liverpool, N.Y.) made seven saves to register his 10th career shutout. The Statesmen (4-4-3) took a 1-0 advantage 23 minutes into the contest, when Hobart was awarded an indirect kick from the 6-yard line. Junior Adam Neary (Niskayuna/Niskayuna, N.Y.) touched the ball to first-year Alex Coates (Avon Old Farms/Belvedere, Calif.) who buried the shot for his second goal of the season. In the 54th minute, the Statesmen added an insurance when senior Peter Cooke (Jamesville-DeWitt/Fayetteville, N.Y.) launched a direct kick from 30 yards away that found the upper left corner of the net. The Storm (5-5-0) had its best scoring chance in the 77th minute, when sophomore Courtney Taylor (Seneca Falls, N.Y.) and sophomore Eric Holler (Tonowanda, N.Y.) got off shots in rapid succession, but Rosier proved up to the task, turning away both blistering shots. Junior goalie Eric Carpenter (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) made four saves and allowed the game-winning goal, but was forced to leave in the 36th minute by an injury. First-year Matt Kofi (Rahway, N.J.) made nine saves in relief. The Statesmen return to action at 4 p.m., on Oct. 6, when they travel
to Ithaca College. |
