October 8, 2002 GENEVA, N.Y.Hobart College forward Matt Vesonder (Mountain Lakes/Boonton Township, N.J.) recently earned Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association Rookie of the Week accolades. His goal and assist helped the Hobart soccer team defeat Scranton College 7-2 in a non-conference matchup. Celebrating their 50th season, Vesonder helped the Statesmen do so in style, scoring his third goal of the season by burying a cross from Ramez Ghaly (Christian Brothers Academy/Syracuse, N.Y.) in the back of the net. Using his speed to get in behind the defense, Vesonder assisted on what would prove to be the game-winner by beating the Royals defense to the end line and slotting it back for Ricky Klotz (Homer/Cortland, N.Y.) to finish. His three goals and one assist for seven points leads Hobart rookies and is third on the team. The Statesmen will kick off again on Oct. 11, hosting Skidmore at 4 p.m. and again on Oct. 12, against Union at 2 p.m. |
