GENEVA, N.Y.—Two student-athletes on the Hobart College squash team were recently named to the 2005-06 Liberty League Men’s Squash All-Academic team. Senior Matt Jacobus (South Burlington/South Burlington, Vt.) and junior John Keating (Mainland/Linwood, N.J.) were recognized for their outstanding efforts in the classroom and on the courts.

In his first year on the squash team, Jacobus recently moved into the Statesmen’s starting nine. A two-sport athlete, he is also a member of the tennis team. Jacobus was also selected to the 2004-05 Liberty League Men’s Tennis All-Academic team. A Dean’s List student, he is majoring in economics.

A two-time All-Academic selection, Keating has played in all 15 matches this season, splitting time between the No. 3 and No. 6 positions. Also a two-sport athlete, Keating is a member of the Colleges’ nationally ranked sailing team. He is majoring in environmental studies and is a member of Chimera, Hobart’s junior class honor society.

To earn a place on the Liberty League All-Academic teams, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum 3.2 cumulative grade point average and be at least a sophomore academically.

Hobart (2-13) returns to action at 10 a.m. on Feb. 4, when the Statesmen host Navy. Hobart recently added a second match to Saturday’s schedule. The Statesmen will tangle with Northeastern at 2:30 p.m. The Huskies are led by Head Coach Chris Smith, a member of the Hobart Class of 1998.
