Rathore collects Liberty League weekly accolade
March 7, 2005
GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart College senior Tejvir Rathore (Daly College/Indore, M.P. India) was named the Liberty League Men’s Squash Performer of the Week after taking runner-up honors in the second round consolation bracket at the College Squash Association Individual Championships.
Seeded seventh in the 32-player field, Rathore opened the weekend with 3-0 (9-4, 10-9, 9-7) victory over Colby’s Trevor McWilliams to advance to the round of 16. A loss to Gavin Morrison of Navy in the second round moved the senior captain to the second round consolation bracket quarterfinals against Jamie White of Bates.
Rathore fell behind 2-1 to White, but won the next two games convincingly to persevere, 3-1 (1-9, 9-3, 5-9, 9-3, 9-4). Pitted against Liberty League opponent Dan McElvaine of St. Lawrence in the semifinals, Rathore avenged his loss to McElvaine earlier in the year at the Liberty League Championships with a 3-1 (9-6, 9-10, 9-4, 9-3) victory to advance to the championship match against Cornell’s Rohit Gupta.
Rathore dropped the opening two games and fell to Gupta 3-1 (8-10, 3-9, 9-4, 5-9) to close out the 2004-05 season with a 13-14 record. The Statesmen’s top player the past four seasons, he finished with a 57-39 career record.
Hobart ended the year 14-9 overall, capturing its second consecutive Liberty League title and earning fourth place in the Hoehn Trophy at the CSA Team Championships.
