GENEVA, N.Y.—Two Hobart College squash student-athletes were honored by the Liberty League today after leading the Statesmen to three wins over the weekend. Hobart captured the Conroy Trophy, marking the first time since 1990 that the Statesmen have won a Collegiate Squash Association (CSA) Trophy. Sophomore Cale Forgues (Ridley College/Kemptville, Ontario) was named the Liberty League Co-Performer of the Week for the second time this season, while first-year Nick Pearson (Chestnut Hill Academy/Philadelphia, Pa.) earned his fifth Rookie of the Week award this winter.
Forgues led the way for the Statesmen at No. 2 with a 3-0 record. He defeated Virginia’s David Whelan 3-1 (9-2, 9-1, 5-9, 9-3) in the quarterfinals and Northwestern’s Zaid Siddik 3-1 (7-9, 9-1, 9-1, 9-3) in the semifinals, before downing Middlebury’s Ben Broad, 3-0 (9-0, 9-2, 9-3) in the finals.
Pearson also posted three wins on the weekend, playing at No. 3. He defeated Virginia’s Clark Bristol 3-0 (9-0, 9-0, 9-0), Northwestern’s Kelvin Ko 3-0 (9-3, 9-0, 9-1), and Middlebury’s Eliot Jia 3-0 (9-6, 9-6, 9-4), pushing the Statesmen to the title.
