Squash captains share Smith Award

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Statesmen Athletic Association and the Hobart Athletics Department honored the top student-athletes of 2006-07 at the 42nd Annual Block H Awards Banquet April 30. Five Statesmen squash players were honored.
Sharing the Dr. Frank P. Smith ’36 Award for leadership were senior co-captians Prateek Patni (Daly College/Indore, M.P. India) and Brian Shiver (Delbarton School/Morristown, N.J). An All-Liberty League selection, Patni led the team at the No. 1 spot and closed out his career with 38 wins, while Shiver played the majority of matches at No. 4. He finished with 20 career wins and was named to the league’s All-Academic Team.
The Rookie Award went to first-year standout Nick Pearson (Chestnut Hill Academy/Philadelphia, Pa.). He was tabbed the Liberty League Rookie of the Year after recording a 15-9 overall record, including a 12-3 mark at the No. 3 spot. He led the team in wins, and earned the league’s Rookie of the Week award five times.
Squash’s Most Improved Player Award went to first-year Dane Evans (Choate Rosemary Hall/Bedminster, N.J.), while the R. Chapin Siebert ’75 Memorial Squash Trophy Award was presented to first-year Craig Chircop (The Gow School/Northfield, Ill.). This award honors the memory of Siebert and recognizes his love for the sport. |
