March 1, 2004 This is Crocketts fourth rookie of the week award from the UCAA, while Clutsam is receiving his first performer of the week honor. With a 2-1 showing over the weekend, Clutsam, playing at No. 4, finished the season tied for the best record on the team, 17-7 (.708), helping the Statesmen to a second place finish in the Hoehn Trophy standings (10th overall). He helped Hobart to its first victory over a higher ranked opponent this season in the Hoehn quarterfinals, as the Statesmen topped No. 10 Brown, 5-4. Clutsam defeated the Bears David Krupnick 3-0 (9-5, 10-8, 10-8) at No. 4. The next afternoon, Clutsam won again in a 5-4 victory over No. 11 Amherst. He defeated the Jeffs' Nick Haslett 3-1 (10-9, 9-2, 3-9, 9-3). Clutsam fell in the Hoehn title match 3-0. Crockett, in the No. 6 spot, also turned in a 2-1 weekend to finish his rookie campaign with a 17-7 record. He bounced back from a quarterfinal loss with a 3-0 victory over No. 11 Amherst's Asad Haque (9-4, 9-6, 9-4). The following afternoon he posted another victory, toppling No. 9 Williams Todd Herlihy, 3-1 (9-5, 6-9, 9-5, 9-2). Hobarts 10th place finish is the best in the programs history. The Statesmen finished 11th in 1993-94. The current squads record of 15-9 exceeded the programs record for wins in a season by two, established by the same 1993-94 Statesmen (13-4). |
