Hobart grad named U.S. Junior National Team assistant

January 12, 2004

GENEVA, N.Y.—The U.S. Squash Racquets Association recently named Hobart graduate Chris Smith as the Assistant Coach of the U.S. Junior Men’s National Team. A 1997 graduate, Smith will be coaching the top players in the country for the next two years in various local, national, and international competitions.

A four-year letterwinner for the Statesmen, the native of Newport, R.I., compiled a 47-26 record during his four seasons, captaining the team his senior year. Smith holds a Level 2 Coaching Certification and is ranked 264th in the world and 13th in the United States in the Professional Squash Association rankings.

An active member in the Geneva community while at Hobart and William Smith, he is currently the Director of Middle School Squash at SquashBusters in Boston, Mass. Combining his personal interest in squash and commitment to the community service, SquashBusters provides academic tutoring, mentoring, and squash instruction and competition to urban youth. The ultimate mission of the program is to teach the children the value of hard work, integrity, and respect on the squash court and in the classroom.

Smith will take the squad to the Scottish and British Opens in January and the U.S. National Championships on March 17-21. Those tournaments all lead up to the 13th annual World Junior Men’s Team and Individual Championships to be held on August 17-22, in Pakistan.
