Rathore, Magaña compete at squash nationals

GENEVA, N.Y. – First-year Hobart College squash player Tejvir Rathore (The Daly College Indore/Indore M.P., India) finished second in the Malloy Division Second Round Consolation at the National Intercollegiate Squash Racquets Association Individual Championships at Princeton University this past weekend. Senior Angel Magaña (American University El Salvador/ San Salvador, El Salvador) also competed, advancing to the second round of the Malloy Division Consolation.

Rathore defeated Colin O’ Higgins of Tufts (9-6, 9-5, 9-4) in the first round of competition before narrowly falling to Sam Miller of Pennsylvania (6-9, 3-9, 10-9, 9-0, 8-10). In the second round consolation bracket, he edged Roberto Kriete of Pennsylvania (9-6, 9-6, 6-9, 5-9, 9-5) and Simon Bradbury of MIT (9-5, 6-9, 9-6, 6-9, 9-2), before losing to Kunal Surana of MIT (0-9, 5-9, 1-9) in the finale.

In the first round, Magaña was swept by Gavin Cumberbatch (4-9, 6-9, 2-9). In consolation play, he defeated Ben Schippers of Bates (9-2, 9-2, 9-6), before bowing to Jon Crowell of Bowdoin (9-5, 9-4, 10-9).

The Hobart squash team posted an 11-9 record this season, its first winning campaign since 1993-94. The Statesmen finished 14th at the NISRA Team Championships. Rathore competed from the No. 1 spot all season, leading Hobart in wins with a 16-8 record. Magaña competed from the second and third spots in the Statesmen’s lineup, posting a 10-13 record.
