GENEVA, N.Y.—Four Hobart squash players have earned a place in the 32-player field of the Malloy Cup, the second division draw of the College Squash Association Individual Championships. Junior Henry Clutsam (Blair Academy/New Vernon, N.J.), sophomore Gavin Johnstone-Butcher (St. Paul’s School/Bulawayo, Zimbabwe), first-year Prateek Patni (Daly College/Indore, India), and junior Tejvir Rathore (Daly College/Indore, India) will compete in the three day event, which begins tomorrow at St. Lawrence University.

Rathore, who played No. 1 this season for Hobart, is seeded third in the draw and will face Navy’s Mason Berry at 8:30 a.m., on March 5. Rathore is 15-8 this season and 45-25 (.643) for his career. Last season, he was the runner-up in the Malloy Cup as the draw’s fourth seed. Rathore was named the UCAA Squash Performer of the Week twice this season.

Clutsam also takes the court at 8:30 a.m. He will tangle with Princeton’s Brendon Bascom. The reigning UCAA Squash Performer of the Week, Clutsam is one of three Statesmen with a team-best 17-7 record this year. He has played throughout the middle of the Hobart lineup and carries a 41-24 (.631) career record into the weekend.

Patni is scheduled to step on the court for his opening match at 9:20 a.m., against Franklin & Marshall’s Satyajit Seshadri. The two met earlier this season in Lancaster, Pa., with Seshadri taking a 3-0 (9-6, 9-5, 9-0). Patni, who played No. 2 for the Statesmen, was named the UCAA Squash Rookie of the Week following Hobart’s convincing victory in the inaugural UCAA Championship Tournament. He sports a 9-11 record as a Statesman.

Johnstone-Butcher will bat cleanup for Hobart, taking the court at 11 a.m., against the No. 8 seed, Williams’ Dan Bishop. Playing primarily in the No. 3 spot, Johnstone-Butcher was 16-8 this season, and boasts a 31-15 (.674) career mark. After dropping his first match, he won the consolation draw of the 2002 Malloy Cup.

Hobart finished the season with a second place showing in the Hoehn Trophy, 10th place overall in the CSA Team Championships. The finish is the best in the program’s history. The Statesmen’s record of 15-9 exceeded the program’s record for wins in a season by two, established by the 1993-94 Statesmen (13-4).
