GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart tennis team lost its season opening match to Division II Mercyhhurst College, 5-2, this afternoon at the HWS Tennis Center.

First-year James Micheroni (Sharon/Sharon, Mass.) and senior Matt Jacobus (South Burlington/South Burlington, Vt.) notched the victories for the Statesmen. Micheroni defeated Lucas Krasowski 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) at fourth singles, while Jacobus topped Matt Hambleton 6-3, 6-2 at sixth singles.

Hobart also picked up a win at third doubles thanks to the team of sophomore Nick Raho (Wheeler School/Providence, R.I.) and Jacobus, who posted a 9-8 (7-5) win, but the Lakers took the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 2.

The Statesmen are back in action on Sept. 17, when they travel to Rochester for the annual Flower City Tournament.
