GENEVA, N.Y.—Three Hobart tennis players were among the student-athletes honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Recent graduate Matt Jacobus (South Burlington/South Burlington, Vt.), senior Matt Silver (Weston/Weston, Conn.), and sophomore Oliver Meeker (Easton/Easton, Pa.) were named ITA Scholar-Athletes.

In May of this year, Jacobus earned a bachelor’s degree in economic. He is a two-time ITA Scholar-Athlete and a two-time Liberty League All-Academic selection. Jacobus played No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 singles for the Statesmen during his career. The four-year letterman posted a 4-8 singles record this season and finished his career with a 24-33 overall mark.

Silver is a three-time ITA Scholar-Athlete with a lengthy list of athletic and academic accomplishments to his credit. He posted a 7-6 singles record this past season, playing in the top four spots in the order. For his career, Silver boasts a 36-19 singles mark. He has twice been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team and is a two-time Liberty League All-Academic pick. Silver earned a spot on the 2004 All-Liberty League singles team and the 2005 All-Liberty League doubles team.

Meeker did not play in an intercollegiate match this season. He spent his first year on campus developing his game. With the graduation of three seniors, Meeker will compete for a spot in the starting lineup this fall.

Over the past four years, Hobart has had 10 student-athletes receive ITA Scholar-Athlete honors.

To earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must be a varsity letterwinner, have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher for the academic year, and have been enrolled at his current school for at least two semesters.
