GENEVA, N.Y.—Three student-athletes on the Hobart College tennis team recently were named to the 2006 Liberty League Men’s Tennis All-Academic team. Seniors Matt Jacobus (South Burlington/South Burlington, Vt.) and Adam Raffa (Concord-Carlisle/Concord, Mass.), and junior Matt Silver (Weston/Weston, Conn.) represented the Statesmen based on their academic and athletic excellence.

All three players are making their second consecutive appearance on the conference’s All-Academic squad. Silver and Jacobus also earned a place on the 2005 Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team.

Jacobus posted a 4-8 singles record this season. He has a career singles record of 24-33, including an 8-6 all-time mark at fifth singles. A two sport athlete, Jacobus is also a member of the Hobart squash team, and was named to the 2005-06 Liberty League Men’s Squash All-Academic Team. A Dean’s List student, Jacobus is majoring in economics.

Raffa, playing second and third singles, finished tied for second on the team in singles victories this season, posting a 7-10 record. A four-year starter, he turned in a career record of 45-23. The history major is a Dean’s List student.

Silver completed the campaign with a 7-6 singles record, playing in the No. 2 and No. 3 spots in the order. A three-year starter, Silver has accumulated an impressive 36-19 singles record. The biology major has been named to the Dean’s List in each of his first two years on campus and was named to the 2005 ESPN The Magazine At-Large Academic All-District second-team.

To earn a place on the Liberty League All-Academic teams, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum 3.2 cumulative grade point average and be at least a sophomore academically.
