Hobart tennis wins final tune up before tourney

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart tennis team won its final tune up before the Liberty League Championship Tournament today. The Statesmen dispatched RIT 7-2 in the Bristol Field House.
After Hobart (9-9) won all three doubles matches, seniors Matt Silver (Weston/Weston, Conn.) and Ronny Koenig (Roslyn/Roslyn, N.Y.) notched wins in matches that went to a super tie-breaker third set at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. Junior Charlie Davis (Manlius Pebble Hill School/Cazenovia, N.Y.) and first-year Brandon Gillespie (Weston/Weston, Conn.) rounded out the scoring for the Statesmen with straight set wins at No. 4 and No. 6, respectively.
Hobart will return to the courts on Sat., April 21, when the Statesmen host the Liberty League Tournament Championship. Hobart is seeking its first conference title since 2004, the last time the Statesmen hosted the annual fray.
