Koenig, Flanigan honored by Liberty League

GENEVA, N.Y.—Two Hobart College student-athletes were honored today by the Liberty League. Senior Ronny Koenig (Roslyn/Roslyn, N.Y.) was named the Liberty League Men’s Tennis Co-Performer of the Week, while first-year Jamie Flanigan (Colorado Academy/Denver, Colo.) was named the Men’s Tennis Rookie of the Week. Koenig and Flanigan helped Hobart to a 2-1 record last week, as the Statesmen defeated Rochester, 6-3, and St. John Fisher, 8-1, before falling to regionally-ranked No. 11 Skidmore, 5-4.
Koenig won all three of his matches last week at No. 3 singles, downing the Yellowjackets’ Jason Maher 6-2, 6-1, the Cardinal’s Tim Adler 6-3, 6-0, and the Thoroughbred’s Jack Martin 7-5, 4-6, 6-4. Koenig also paired up with teammate Charlie Davis (Manlius Pebble Hill School/Cazenovia, N.Y.) to defeat the Maher and Mike Shepheard of Rochester at second doubles, 8-5. Koenig owns a 6-1 singles record so far this season.
Flanigan helped Hobart past Rochester, blanking Tyler Socash 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles, before teaming up with Brandon Gillespie (Weston/Weston, Conn.) at No. 3 doubles to defeat Adam Crosby and Mike Kornhauser, 8-1.
The Statesmen’s next match will take place on March 28 when they travel to Nazareth. The match is set to begin at 4 p.m.
