May 22, 2002 GENEVA, N.Y.Hobart College first-year Peter Piné (Princeton/Princeton, N.J.) was named the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association Mens Tennis Rookie of the Year by the conferences coaches. He was also named first-team All-UCAA for singles and doubles. Piné was joined on the first-team by his doubles partner, sophomore Trevor McAndrew (Northfield-Mt. Hermon/Westerly, R.I.). Senior Andrew Hunt (Woodstock Academy/Pomfret Center, Conn.) earned second-team All-UCAA singles and doubles honors, while junior Ryan Gilmore (Hawken School/Pepper Pike, Ohio) garnered second-team doubles honors with Hunt. The first Statesman to be named Rookie of the Year, Piné compiled a 16-7 overall record from the first singles position, including 13 straight-sets victories. Hobarts No. 1 doubles team, Piné and McAndrew combined for a 9-6 record. A talented two-sport athlete, McAndrew is also a guard on the Hobart basketball team. Hunt enjoyed an outstanding senior season, posting a 16-6 record at No. 3 singles. At No. 2 doubles, Hunt and Gilmore were 9-6 this season. Hunt also earned UCAA All-Academic honors this season. The Hobart tennis team finished the season with a 16-4 record, the programs
best record since the 1994-95 team went 16-3. The Statesmen finished third
at the UCAA Championship Tournament, April 26-28 at St. Lawrence University.
During the fall season, Hobart captured Rochesters Flower City Tournament,
the first for the Statesmen under seventh-year Head Coach Carol Weymuller. |
